Flipped Classroom in Clorado Springs with April Gudenrath, a secondary teacher who has compiled amazing results in writing with her students. Prior to using Flipped Classroom videos and immersing her students in the method, Miss Gudenraths students were mired in mediocrity and her lessons were mostly lectures. After changing to a Flipped Classroom, her students have made a complete reversal with the highest scores in the district in writing assessments. I believe what she says, but a modicum of training would be necessary not only for teachers, but students and parents as well. Also, a survey would be necessary to determine the availability of technology possessed by the learning group.
Exploratorium: There were these sites to explore:
Youtube.com- search the site for Flipped Classroom examples. I did not search this site. I am more interested in sites that offer examples on that particular site.
UEN.org/flipped- This site on UEN offered examples in a wide range of topics dealing with Flipped Classrooms. Of interest to me were the questions asked if a teacher were thinking about beginning a Flipped Classroom. What a Flipped Classroom looks like. What students say about such a classroom and how it might be improved. I will go back and read the remainder of the articles (numerous ) to get a deeper understanding of this method.
Kahnacademy.org and Fi.ncsu.edu/fizz I did not explore yet. These sites are available to me and I plan to view them after I have read through the UEN site. Then I think what I see on these sites will make more sense.
Article activity. The activity required teams to research an article or parts of one and create a presentation on Show me. My group responded to the query: Four wrong reasons not to Flip. I suppose there are a multitude of reasons why a teacher would not try a Flipped video with their class. Personally, I think the positive results I keep hearing about this make me more and more willing to try. As Cynthia Lloyd stated, the system is what it is so we must try to find ways to implement these technologies we've learned in areas that teach what is required but do not compromise the curriculum map. The common thread among educators is that flipping Math lessons is the most common use of this method.
